Use of this website
The information on campinggearwise.com is provided as general guidance about camping and the gear people use for it. It does not replace the instructions that came with a product, the manual for an appliance, the judgment of a qualified professional, or the rules that apply where you camp.
Ratings and capacities are yours to verify
Every tent, appliance and site is a different combination. Weight capacities, clearance distances, ventilation requirements, R values, fuel consumption and battery or watt hour figures all depend on your specific equipment, and we never invent a figure for it. Where we mention a number, it comes from a manufacturer table or an official source and is named as such. Check it against your own gear before you rely on it.
Fuel, fire and carbon monoxide
Stoves, lanterns, heaters, grills and fire pits burn fuel and produce carbon monoxide. Keep them outside the tent unless the manufacturer publishes a rating for enclosed use, follow the clearance and ventilation instructions exactly, and use a working carbon monoxide alarm. Nothing here confirms that a particular product is safe to run inside a tent or an enclosed shelter.
Site rules and fire restrictions
Whether an open fire is allowed, which fuels are permitted, where food must be stored overnight and when generators may run depends on the campground, the agency and the season. Restrictions change at short notice. Check with the land manager or ranger office before your trip, and follow Leave No Trace guidance for anything we describe in general terms.
No product testing
We do not physically test the products we write about. Our guidance is based on published manufacturer specifications and on reported camper experience. Descriptions of how a product performs are therefore an interpretation of available information, not a measured result, and your own experience may differ. Safety related figures such as weight capacity, dimensions, clearances and standards references are repeated as the manufacturer states them; always confirm them on the product listing and in the manual before use.
Setup, weather and your own judgment
Gear has to hold up on your site, in your weather, not in a general article. Follow the manufacturer instructions for pitching, staking, fuelling and charging, and get qualified help when you are not certain that a setup is sound. Wind, cold, storms and wildlife make the difference between a product working and a product failing, and only you can see the conditions in front of you.
Accuracy
We take care with our content, but we cannot guarantee that all product and specification information is always complete or current. Product lines are revised and specifications change between model years. Always check the manufacturer and retailer information before you buy.
Liability
We are not liable for any damage resulting from the use of the information on this website. You use our guidance at your own discretion.
